Nobody ever said moving was easy. In fact, it’s downright stressful, as it takes hours of effort and organization in order to pack everything away into boxes and get it ready for the movers to come in. To keep things simple, follow these tips on how to prepare for your movers in Bangkok.
1. Box everything up properly
You’ll need to pack everything away in boxes ready for the movers to come in. Be sure to buy some good quality boxes, as well as some bits of foam and/or bubble wrap for those fragile items. Box everything up and leave it in the same room, and don’t forget to label each box so they know which room it’s supposed to go into in your new home.
If your movers can’t read English, be sure to have a Thai speaker label the boxes in Thai.
2. Let the building know what time you’re moving in
If you’re moving to a condominium building, it would be helpful to let the management there know what time you’ll be moving in. That way they can ensure the parking space close the elevator is free, and provide any assistance you need (such as handing you the keys, for example!).
3. Prepare your new homeowner
It’s a good idea to prepare the new home prior to the mover arriving. Make sure everything is clear so they can bring things in easily – no blocked doorways or corridors. You may also want to protect surfaces such as hardwood floors by laying blankets over them to avoid any damage when moving larger pieces of furniture.
4. Make sure the furniture fits!
There’s nothing worse than moving into a new home only to find the master bed won’t fit into the bedroom. While most professional movers should be able to cope, there are times when it just isn’t physically possible to get something through the door. So be sure to make measurements beforehand and ensure there won’t be any hiccups along the way. If there is going to be a problem, you can at least let the movers know before that they’ll have to take apart the wardrobe. That way they can bring whatever tools they need to get the job done.
5. Consider hiring a babysitter for small children
Small kids and toddlers are difficult to keep happy at the best of times, and a big move like this definitely isn’t such a time. Kids running around will not only distract you, but also cause lots of hassle for the movers while they’re grappling with bulky furniture and heavy boxes. In that case, it’s much better just to get the kids out of the way altogether.
6. Consider your pets
If you keep animals at home, be sure to plan for them too. The movers will want to keep the front door open while they’re busy shifting everything into or out of the van, and that leaves plenty of opportunity for Fido to make an escape. So either keep him tied up somewhere for the duration, or else find a pet sitter for the day.
