If you have a construction job or a major renovation project you want to be done, you will want to hire a contractor. However, some work under registered companies and those that are freelancers. While you may want to just focus on other factors like skill and experience in making a choice, it is advisable to stick to those that work under registered companies for several reasons.

Traceability

When you register a business in Thailand, it must be done at the local office of Business Registration in the area the company is located. This means that if you ever need to trace the offices of the company, you can easily find them. The registration documents will also state who the owners of the business are. This traceability makes it safer to deal with a registered business than with a freelancer who can easily up sticks at a moment’s notice. For any project that involves a substantial amount of investment, knowing how you will find the contractor in case things go wrong will be important.

Insurance

Registered construction companies will often take up insurance for several purposes that can also protect the customer. Standard policies can cover such issues as delays to the project, third-party liabilities, bodily injuries, property damage and more. It is good to ensure these protections are available as construction work can be dangerous and the last thing you want is to be held personally liable because a workman was injured on your property.

Legalities

There are often many legalities when it comes to carrying out a construction project. This includes obtaining the necessary licenses and permits. Certain jobs will also have to be carried out by suitable trained and licensed professionals. Registered companies have more employees on hand to handle all these requirements. Freelance or independent contractors typically work with far fewer resources, which can lead to delays or even failures to comply which can affect the client negatively.

Scheduling

With limited resources, especially in the manpower department, freelance contractors tend to have a very tight schedule. They cannot accommodate that many projects, which may mean having to wait a while until they are available. Registered companies do not tend to rely on just one contractor. They often have several contractors on the payroll, meaning that you can quickly get someone to start on your project. Their staff are usually from various specialties so you should not lack the expertise you want when required.
