There are many benefits to having a pet in the home. They serve as companions and can be a great way to teach children about compassion and responsibility. However, it can be a struggle to have a pet and keep your home clean, especially if it is an animal of the furry variety. Due to the Bangkok heat, you will often find pets like dogs and cats just as eager to remain indoors as their owners where they can keep cool. Here is how you can keep this shared space clean with less strain.
Get a robot vacuum
This is especially important if you have an open-door policy. This means your pet is free to come and go from the outside as they please. This means that besides contending with the constant shedding of fur, you also have to deal with the dust, leaves and other debris they bring in and shake off indoors. A robot vacuum is a great way to not have to keep doing clean-up over this as the machine is constantly on the move, sucking up dirt so you do not have to.
Have a doormat
Doormats are great for catching much of the dirt when your dog comes from outside. You can even train them on how to wipe their feet. Try to get your kids to follow suit so it can become a reinforced habit for your pet, which is easy if he loves to imitate. You can also add a washable throw rug in your living area, which your pet can lie and roll around on. You can more easily clean this regularly to limit the amount of dirt that gets to other areas of the house.
Keep a lint roller around
Lint rollers are great for picking up loose hairs and light dirt that your pet can bring in and rub onto furniture. Have them in different places and encourage the family to use them now and then to enjoy a tidier environment. They are simple and fun to roll around and you just peel off the used paper to reveal another sticky sheet.
Furniture covers
Furniture covers are vital if you allow your pet to climb the furniture. There are many commercial options, or you can just use spare sheets. They are great for collecting dog hair and other stains, making it easy to clean by just throwing them into your washing machine. When they become worn you can affordably buy new ones to put in rotation.
