You probably thought that the bathroom is the dirtiest place in the house. In reality, we devote so much more time, effort, and products to keeping this room clean, that we often overlook other areas where dirt could be hiding, sight unseen.
Air vents
It often feels like a breath of fresh air when we turn on our air conditioning to beat the heat. However, the vents responsible for distributing this cool air around the home often collect all kinds of dirt such as dust, hair and insect remains. Most homeowners neglect this area until the air becomes noticeably stuffy and they have to call an HVAC specialist. You can however fix it with a suitable vacuum cleaner that can fit the duct and suck out loose dirt by manually scrubbing with a toilet brush.
Kitchen and bathroom drains
Just because you scrubbed down the sink and faucet to leave them gleaming does not mean the area is properly sanitized. The dirt we wash in those areas will often wash down the drain, with some remnants clinging on along the way. With time, you may find that air around your sink becoming foul, indicating there is grime and germs stuck somewhere. If you can open up the drain from underneath the sink you can clear out the gunk and sanitize. Some sinks have large drains which can allow you to do this by inserting your hand from above.
Outside your toilet bowl
We are often so fixated on scrubbing away inside the toilet bowl, that we forget the exterior. You may be surprised to realize how much filth has gotten on the outside of the bowl and surrounding floor. The hinges around the toilet seat cover are also another area that could hide plenty of germs. If you have not cleaned the area in a while, apply stronger cleaning products to soak and sanitize before wiping it down. Scrub down the hinge area with a small brush or toothbrush.
Blenders
Blenders are a great way to break down foods and make smoothies. It is normal to use them and wash the jug after. However, we often overlook the blender itself, even if we ended up forgetting to put the lid and splattered juice everywhere. If the gasket is compromised, it could allow the contents to leak from below. Take time to thoroughly clean your blender before it begins to harbor and grow all kinds of germs.
